Reagan Funeral

I thought the president and vp are not supposed to be in the same place at the same time.

So, we have the current president, vp, clinton, bush sr, carter all in the same place.

Must be really tight security!

So that if there's an attack, the chain of command doesn't get broken. I'm not sure if this is an actual rule, or just something that people made up.

Shoot...there's a term for it....argh!! Can't remember it.

they're in the same room for the state of the union, aren't they? they usually pick someone pretty far down the line of succession (re: Secretary of Agriculture or something) to stay in a separate location.

in any event, Washington D.C. is probably the most secure place in the history of the world right now.

Quick! To the Bat Cave, Cheney!

On a side note...I know this is sooo wrong...but one of Reagan's granddaughters is a hottie.

President and VP can't be in the same place only in times of distress. Like on 9/11, for example. Other times they can and are in the same room quite often. How do you think they come up with policies and all, they don't do it over the phone.

I think in private is different, but in media type places and AF1, I thought they weren't supposed to be in the same place, but I'm no authority and obviously this isn't a rule since they are in the same place

I think the Secretary of State or something is the next in command. I don't know if that person is there.

It's amazing how many powerful people are here!

The secretary of state is colin powel and he was there. I would suspect that if anything or anyone (airplanes and cars) made even the slightest suspicious movement the Secret Service pokic, everyone, would shoot first ask questions later.

BTW: If this is Reagans funeral they aren't going to do one like this for Clinton are they :frown: ... they better not

Giving Clinton such a ceremony makes my stomach turn too!

Though he'll probably request it in spite, so he can pi$$ off the military one last time.

I believe this was according to his wishes. Plus for all he did for our country and the world he deserves it. Not sure if Clinton deserves it but I believe if he wishes and documents it, he will get it.

Secretary of State is not next. Speaker of the House is. Powell is fourth in line.

Coincidentally, Reagan's Sec. of State also thought he was next in command when Reagan was under after the assassination attempt. Actually, it goes Pres -> Vice Pres -> Speaker of the House (Hastert, at the moment).

After that, I forget. 😉

I think any President deserves the right to have the ceremony if they so wish. Personally feelings
of Clinton aside. However IMHO, if he were to receive the ceremony, I don't think we would see
the same outpouring of support that Reagan received. But thats just my opinion.

Clinton was President. If he or his family request a state funeral then he shall have one. That is his and every ex President's right. You may not have liked the man, I don't, but he still deserves the full rights and honors that holding the office brings.

A good portion of this funeral is respect for the OFFICE of the president. Clinton was president, ergo Clinton deserves the same respect.
