readyboost for external hdd

Vista asked me if i want to use readyboost on external hdd when i hooked it to my laptop I thought readyboost only work for USB Flash drive?

From what I understand, it tests the speed of the drive before asking if you want to use readyboost. I guess if the HDD is fast enough, the option is there.

It'll always ask if you want to use it, but if you actually said yes, it probably will deny it afterward.

Either way, don't use it if it lets you, it'll degrade performance for sure. Readyboost is there to compensate for the slowness of hard drives, using it with an external hard drive is going to be obviously counterproductive.

thank you I always thought usb flash drive is fast I guess I am wrong anyway
