Ready to buy - X2 4400+ (89w) or X2 4800+

Ok, I think I'm ready to buy now. However, I can't decide between the X2 4400+ (89) or the X2 4800+. Is the extra $60 worth the 200MHz difference? I know I can probably overclock the X2 4400+ to make up the 200MHz difference, but would I be able to overclock the 4800+ further since its starting point is higher.

I currently have the Abit AV8 with the 3400+ (yes the limited 939 version bundled with this board about 2 years ago) and 2GB of DDR400 value ram at 3-3-3-8. This will be my first real attempt at overclocking as the chip I have now is limited to and 800 HTT and not working very well for me so I stopped and figure I'll try again with the new chip.
 
I'd get the 4400+ x2 because of the extra cache. The performance difference may not be that much but you can always overclock the chip...as with the cache there's no way to add more.
 
I'd go with the 4400+.

4800+ really don't clock that well. Unless you're planning to put it under phase, which doesn't seem likely 😀
 
Sorry, should have said that both of these are the X2's so they both should have the 2x1MB L2 cache. I'll correct the OP. As for the X2 3800, it is 200 MHz lower than the X2 4400 and only half the cache. Is it worth it considering the slower starting speed and half the cache.
 
89W 4400+s seem to be a very good processor. they use the new DSF silicon and every report i have seen on this board and others suggests that they overclock VERY well. my own 89W 4400+ with easily reach 2.8ghz at only 1.36-1.37V. there is virtually no chance that you won't be able to reach 4800+ speeds with an ADV 4400+, AND the lower power X2s have higher safe operating temps and use less voltage (meaning higher overclocks). and they cost about $220 if you can get a good price...
 
I'd go with the 4400 myself (and may do just that very soon). One thing to factor in is your ram. What speed/timings can it run. If the higher multi can get your ram to run at a better divider(faster) or be able to OC easier with the value ram that you have you may want to splurge on the 4800.
