Please review the system I've been waiting to build for 6 months now! Wife finally given the okay to spend some cash!
1. Intended uses: Playing games (of course!) Importing home video from analog sources (a DV camera eventually too) editing the video, output to DVD's. Web site stuff, business use, etc. Overclocking on stock cooling (will be my first OC)
2. System Specs: (Budget is 1200 or less, has to include everything from a floppy drive to keyboard, etc)
Venice 3000 (would Venice 3200+ be easier for me to OC? Have read that before but not afraid to save $40 and give the 3000 a shot and heard 3000 has more potential once you get hang of it)
DFI Lanparty UT nf4 Ultra-D (will never need SLI on this machine - wife will never go for that) Always wanted a DFI board - not flexible on board I think.
OCZ Value VX 1gb (2x512) Read great reviews on this stuff. DFI board should be able to supply voltage to push these sticks, right? Will they need cooling (hope not if I OC to 2.4) and about how much voltage would require them to be cooled?
Forton Blue Storm 500W (have read good split 12V rail PSU)
Leadtek 6600GT PCI express card (open to suggestions around the $170 price range - 6600gt seems like best bang for buck right now - just not sure of brand. Good experience with MSI in the past)
WD SATA 3.0gb 160gb HDD x 2 (add a 3rd later for RAID 0 for video editing if I need more HD access speed)
Pinnacle Studio Plus w/hardware to import video
Aerocool case (JS Jet something) Seems like good cooling, read good reviews
Misc DVD burner (Lite-On), CD-ROM, floppy drive, Keyboard, mouse, speakers, cables, Arctic Silver 5 tube, etc. I basically need everything except monitor.
3. Question: Stock cooling is only option. Will I be able to OC that 3000 to 2.4ghz on stock cooling with that RAM? Will it be extremely difficult because the 3000 is 1.8ghz or am I better off going with 3200 2.0ghz (something about the x9 vs x10 multiplier? I am a rookie OC.
4. Does anyone see any big problems with my set up? I know personal preferences will come into play but I've tried to do my homework, reading reviews, stress tests, poured through forums, etc. My goal is a rock solid stable system, slight overclock (is 1.8 to 2.4 a slight overclock?) Everything has to work or my wife will say "I told you so" She wants me to buy a Dell, can you believe that?
