After quite a bit of research I've decided to go with the IBM T40 over the Dell Latitude D600 and Gateway 200x. I just have one problem left, where are the best deals on these?

I purchased my T40 from ThinkPad Depot. However, I would like to point out that if you buy from IBM.com, you have 30 days to return the machine no questions asked if there are problems with it. You pay more for IBM direct, but it gives you some insurance against dead pixels, etc.

That's a good point. They also often have pretty decent promotions with bundled accessories, etc. You can also always call up a sales person at IBM and see if he/she will lower the price on the unit you're interested in.

Yup free battery right now, and if u are a shareholder or know somebody who works there u get a 15% discount. Or you can try and get the small business 20% discount, but it might be kind of iffy

I've heard that first time buyers get a certain discount if you order by phone. How much is this?

That's off the IBM web price right?

Thanks a lot.
