Ready for new build.....wait for 89XX?

My current rig (3500+/6600GT) is not up to par for Supreme Commander. I've been waiting to build a new C2D/8800GTS system and am pretty much ready to go.

Now I see the 89XX cards will be shipping relatively soon (precisely when I don't know). So, my question is: would you:

1) Wait for the 89XX and upgrade then (to the 8800GTX or 8900GTS)?
2) Upgrade now to 8800GTS
3) Upgrade everything but the GPU and get a 89XX when it ships

I'm leaning toward option 3 - I'm pretty sure SupCom is proc bottlnecked. I have a 22" monitor and would like to play at 16x12. But, I can stand to play @ 10x12 as long as I'm not getting a slideshow. Right now it's pretty brutal when I get lots of units...

if your vid card is pci-e, then shoot for #3.

Don't wait for anything. My 8800 GTS hasn't winced at anything I've thrown at it thus far and can't see it doing so in the immediate future. Here's what I'd do: buy the GTS now. You won't regret it. When the 89xxs are released, use eVGA's stepup program to score that new card. If they come out sometime in the next 2 months, that's what I'm going to do. Do we need the new cards? No. However, I've been on a 9800 Pro for so long I just want to have the top card for a little longer than a month...

9800 Pro was a great card in its time, i'm still using 9800 AIW on one of my rigs. I would wait for the 8900 to come out and pray that the 8800gts price will come down a bit more. that is the only reason why i would wait, just for a chance that the price might come down.

I've never been one for getting the top tier technology.

When the 9800pro was announced, I got a 9700 pro and used it for years (great card). When the 6800GT was announced I got a 6600GT (shortley thereafter). I'm still running it now and it's been fine.

What I have my eye on now is the 8800GTS. I would like to see the price point and performance of the 8900GTS before making a decision.

There are really only two games I care about running with this rig: Supreme Commander and Unreal Tournament 3 (the latter, DX10, is not supposed to ship until this summer or so).

Anyone have an ETA for the 89XX?
