Reads don't effect a SSD but writes do - Let me get this straight

So it is the amount of writes a SSD does that effects its lifetime not reads right ?

Is that why gaming doesn't effect the lifetime of a SSD that much ?

You really like making new threads... heh

Yes, writes are the bane of SSDs, but, for normal usage <50GB/day, people have nothing to worry about with writes. Even if you exceed that amount, you will still will get many, many months of use.

Thanks. Thought so.

Yeah, except for all but the most very excessive use cases, it's a complete and utter non-issue.

I figured Planar TLC might have an impact as the endurance is rated at less than half that of MLC. As they're the most likely drives to be used in OEM systems, as well as likely being subject to the longest service time as a result, there's a possibility for endurance to be an issue.

Actually, reads affect FLASH endurance just as well, just not in the same manner as erases.

Multiple reads from flash can cause read disturb. When this happens, you need to rewrite the affecting blocks, which obviously causes wear.

Just as I've never seen anyone wear out a flash memory card from writing to it to much, I don't expect to see someone wearing out an SSD by writing to it too much anytime soon.
