ReadProcessMemory/WriteProcess Memory Error

Just built a rig for a buddy and loaded XP Pro SP1 this morning. Now I'm trying to install some of his mainboard drivers, DirectX, a TV Tuner driver, etc. Each time I click on the setup file for each of these, I keep getting the following error:

"Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed"

The Catalyst drivers were the only thing I could make any progress with but it wouldn't let me install those with out .NET Framework. So I burnt that to a disc on MY computer and then got the error above when I tried to execute it on his computer. XP seems to be running fine but I just can't seem to get any drivers executed without getting the message above.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Maybe a CD/DVD drive problem. Try this: http://forum.adiscon.com/topic,409.html

Go into your device manager->IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Right click on secondary and choose properties. Go to the advanced settings tab and choose PIO only for "transfer mode". I would ensure that your drive is connected to the secondary controller first though.

You'll want to do that with whichever controller your optical drive (CD/DVD) is on. If that doesn't work I recommend running memtest86 to check for any memory problems, regardless if some programs do fail and some don't.
