I'm looking at buying a new wallet and I'm wondering if I need the kind that blocks RFID.
I downloaded an app for my phone that reads RFID and it needed to be right on top of my existing wallet to work.
Are the readers thieves use more powerful?
I haven't tested my existing wallet to see if it is still readable through layers of material.

Nfc or rfid? Nfc is a type of rfid, but only works a max of maybe 1 inch. I've never been worried myself....

most RFID can only be read from a few inches. There are three RFID frequencies and both the low and high range only have a few inches range, you should be fine. The UHF rfid frequency has a range of many many meters but this type of rfid would never be used on any bank cards or anything like that.

There are high and low range frequency RFID. These must be read at an extremely close range, typically a few centimeters. For longer range or any other type of RFID/active RFID, I must use an external reader for handling them with mobile devices.
