Reading registry from dead Win98?

It's easiest if you have another 98 box around. You can load the hive in regedit on that box to access it.

Can you explain at little more? I can easily spin up Win98 on another machine. How do I get RegEdit to read another hive?

On 2k/XP machines there is an option on the file menu to 'Load Hive'. I'm pretty sure 98 has this also, but it's been so long I'm not 100% sure. If it does, you just select a branch and use the 'load hive' functionality. You browse out to the registry file you wan to access and it's grafted into the tree at the point you selected. You can then search, edit, copy, etc data out of it at will.
