Reading Fat32 in Windows 7?

A buddy of mine gave me an external HD to see if it still works, but he was using it on a MAC and was using FAT32. I tried plugging it into my Windows 7 machine through USB to see if my PC could at least see that something is plugged into its usb port, but it doesn't see anything. Is this simply because the HD is using fat32 and windows 7 is ntfs?

Edit: Ok I plugged it into my rear USB port and now windows 7 sees that something is plugged into the USB port and when I go to devices and printers it shows up, but I doesnt show up as a removable storage drive. Even though this was used on mac I should still be able to use it right?
