Reading Burned CD's Under WinME

For some wierd reason, no matter what CD-Rom drive I use, WinME won't read certiant burned CD's that I have. Most of my burned copies work but some (MS Publisher 2k, Fallout II, and Postal) do not. The CD's work under Win88Se but when I try to run the CD's under WinME my CD-Rom goes into some wierd "loop" trying to read the CD and my system locks up. I get out of the lockup by ejecting the CD and then hitting "ESC" when the BSOD tells me that there is an error reading my CD-Rom Drive. I have tried another CD-Rom and get the same problem. Since the CD's work fine under Win98SE I assume it is the WinME CD-Rom driver that is the problem. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

First off, I will not even go into the winME flame issue. Just dont let ppl hear you like WinME, others will not be so gentle.

In general, CD-Rom drivers are built into the O/S. For a normal CD-Rom, AFAIK there is no way to update that.

Win2K has the same problem. I can burn a CD using cd creator 5 on a Win98 system and some cd's Win2k will see, some it won't. One of the girls where I work burned me a cd with apps that are common to most systems here at work, on her WinNT machine and Win2K couldn't read it. In all of the above cases the cd's are readable by Win98 and WinNT, but occasionally not by Win2K.
Instead of takeing the time to findout why, I just find an NT machine and upload the cd to the network, then download it from the network to my HD.
