reader only for MS docx file (windows 7 & Ubuntu 14.04 )

I have a few files (all containing text only) that were created in MS word (2007). I want to be able to open and read them on another computer (there is no office suite installed) running Win 7 and/OR a another computer running Bodhi Linux (a variant of Ubuntu 14.04). Are there any relaible lightweight solutions..?
I read libreoffice can do this in Linux but am looking for some expert advise (as I always get here)

I'm not aware of a standalone cross-platform viewer. LibreOffice will read them on both Windows and GNU/Linux, but it's not exactly light.

Abiword is cross-platform, and the docs state it'll open docx. It's also a processor(not simply a reader), but it'll be much lighter than LibreOffice.

Can't help with cross-platform, but you can use the newer MS office word viewer 2007, if that helps.

thanks for all responses. Abiword works perfectly on Bodhi and 7 and it is nice to have the ability to edit and is very fast. If I run into any issues will revert to MS viewer

And, you also have one built in to Windows 7 (and 8), It is called Wordpad. It is a standard Windows app./ I use it to read docx files, and, it can edit some of them as well.

Nice thanks Corkyg, it is always good to have a secondary method if I run into any issues with Abiword. I was using 2007 office but recently had to remove it (long story).
