Reaching 3.3 with E6420 and Freezer 7 Pro

I've been trying to get my CPU up to 3.3ghz but I cant seem to find a steady voltage that I feel safe with. So far I've gone as far up as 415/1.45v. With those settings I get a solid boot with IDLE temps @ 31/36 and LOAD temps @ 66. These are the temps I get when I load the CPU at 100 with TAT, but after 21 minutes I crash to BLUE SCREEN. My Overclocking settings dont get reset, it just BSOD's. I know 70 is the Highest your CPU should get when @ load but I'm still not sure if I should push the Vcore higher (I'm scared). Will a Vcore of 1.5 or 1.55 be unsafe? Or is it fine as long as I don't go over 70 at load?

Thanks, Kenny

P.S. I am semi-new to overclocking but I am very curious.

You don't have enough of a heatsink to be able to run that fast, using that much vcore. Not only that, but BSOD's are almost always caused by your RAM, not your processor.

I wouldn't really let temps go above 60, what if ambient temps go up, you could get in some serious trouble then. If you can do 3.2 at 1.4vcore, and idle load are like 35/60, I would settle for that. Or get a better heatsink + fan

as far as ram goes I recently bought this into my system. (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820161229)

So are you guys saying that theres no chance I can get to 3.3 safley on this heatsink? In a thread I started about my heatsink the replies said I should be able to :( .My abient temps never get to high because my room is almost always cold with an open case. More user opinions would be great..

There is NOTHING wrong with your HSF. I have the same Freezer Pro and I am running a E6300 at 3283.12 MHZ with no problem 24/7.

However, although the install is very simple your temp is much too high. I suspect your install is faulty.

Also, you RAM is suspect.

There are better HSF, no doubt, but a couple degree would not make ANY difference. Your temps are about 10-15 degrees higher than mine.

:)

Freezer 7 Pro should get you there no problem. I don't know much about the new E6x20 chips but on my E6300 can run 3.2 with less than 1.3v.

no-one said theres something wrong with his HSF, it's just that if he has to increase his vcore up to 1.4 and higher to reach 3.2, then it won't suffice because a freezer 7 pro can't cool it sufficiently.

Sounds like you have a bum overclocking chip like mine:(

My E6400 acts the same way, it runs nice and cool on low volts to about 3050 then it requires more and more volts as you go up from there. To get it stable at 3200 I have to set 1.475 in bios which gives me 1.39-1.40 in CPU-Z and load temps with TAT hit 62c with an Ultra 120 extreme HSF, to get 3300 stable I have to go waaay up to 1.575 in bios which gives me 1.44-1.46 in CPU-Z and TAT load temps go to the high 60's.

So I run it 3050 24/7 with vcore at 1.375 in bios which gives me 1.32-1.33 in CPU-Z and TAT load temps in the low 50's with ram running DDR2-950 4-4-4-15

A lot of the newer C2D chips are being persnippity when it comes to anything over 3.2. Back it down a tad and be happy with what you got.

I just cant do that *jokes* Im happy with what I got now but, I dont want to stop just because I might of done somthing wrong so thats why I here to find the problem. Now Husy said I may have installed my HSF wrong which I didnt know can really be done so please explain what i should look for. Also is it possible it could be my motherbaord? I got this mobo from a friend and it as a few pin deformity's in the CPU socket ( could take pictures) Im not sure if that really does anything cuz I seem to run 3.2 just fine a 1.4 with max temps of 57.

For some reason this site wont let me post thumbnails of pictures so here is the the direct link http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/8517/cpupinsyz4.jpg
Thanks, Kenny
