I have an old lamp, no idea of the age but it had a cotton electric cord so quite old. I am trying to re-wire it. I disassembled the lamp completely and was able to cut off the cord at the base of the lamp and remove the switch, but the remaining parts of the electrical cord will not come out of the shaft between the switch and the base (see photo). Any idea how to get it out? I tried pulling it but it won't budge.

In old lamps, there is usually a knot tied in the cord to keep it in the shaft. Cut off both ends and it has to come out one end or the other.

the bottom tube should unthread from the joint part, its probably just sharp edges in that joint that is holding you up.
usually on a lamp, I have seen the knot right at the base. i would replace the socket if you have a chance, i have had the old sockets with switches mess with new led bulbs for some reason, maybe corrosion on the switch contacts.
ace hardware's usually have a good selection of parts that are very similar to the old parts.
