I'm looking to upgrade my Logitech z-560 to the Z-5500. The problem I have is I want to mount the rear channels on my ceiling where I already have it pre-wired. I can't believe that Logitech would do something so damn stupid as to hard wire these with a fixed length. I'm sure that 99% of the users would prefer that they forget the speaker cable altogether and let us buy that separately.

Anyway, has anyone taken the plunge to replace the wire (and void the warranty)? Just looking for a description of your process or some tips.....

Yes I agree that it does sorta piss me off that they went with RCA cables. It didn't make much sense to me (comming from a set of z560s). The old system of using actual speaker wire made a lot of sense...

It doesn't make an ounce of sense unless they were trying to control the length for optimal sound quality. Although I can't see how adding another 20' of good quality speaker wire could possibly cause any degradation.

I'd like to know if you can pop open the satelites and re-wire these boys. Then just solder or use crimp-on RCA's on the other end. -kind of a hassel, but might be worth it. This system is one hell of a bargain. I'd also like to extend the controller from the amp. I noticed there was a warning on the amp about that. I'd like to test it out and see, though.

Popping open the Sats will void the warranty as well so either clip the Sat wire from the outside and extend (prolly lose the waranty) or adapt at the end of the Sat wires and possibly lose some signal...
