Hey ppl!

I wanted to know if there is a big difference between AGP X4 to AXP X8..?

Why do i have to know?

Because i wanna get a new comp which will contain AGP x8 card(RAD9700PRO) and a RDRAM mem and i don't find any motherboard that support this combination... BTW P4 Chipset.

With a mobo that is 8x agp compliant it should allow more bandwidth throughput, but as mentioned many games do not have the need for that data transfer ability yet...

Wouldn't something like the high poly count test in 3dMark benifit from more bandwidth?

I have read some reviews that when an agp 8x card was placed in an agp 8x compliant mobo there was an increase in certains games and benches...Which ones and how much I dont know but I think it was above 10% in some certain instances....

If you're going with Intel don't go for AGP x8 as it means that you can't get an Intel chipset and have to stick to someone else.

If you didn't care either way then AGP x8 will be good for slightly future-proofing your rig but it really doesn't make much difference right now.

It does make a difference for professional graphics work, but not at all in games. Perhaps games a few years down the line can strain the AGP bus, but not today; 2x to 4x hardly yields a noticeable increase today.
