Great show. I watched it up till the last season. I'm not a Jimmy Smits fan, so when they adopted him as the new candidate, I bailed on the show.

I admit my love for it even though I'm firmly pro-gun rights and the show was completely ignorant on that topic but insisted on using it as a talking point.

The episode where Toby Ziegler ends up arranging for a homeless vet to be buried was one of the best all time TV episodes.

I remember that one...really well done. But there are so many that deserve recognition. Josh's suicide attempt, the big block of cheese episode, and my all time favorite speech:

More than anytime in recent history America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedoms and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive.

Forty-four people were killed a couple hours ago at Kennison State University; three swimmers from the men's team were killed and two others are in critical condition, when after having heard the explosion from their practice facility they ran into the fire to help get people out... Ran into the fire.

The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels tonight. They are our students and our teachers and our parents and our friends. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels, but every time we think we've measured our capacity to meet a challenge, we look up and we're reminded that that capacity may well be limitless. This is a time for American heroes. We will do what is hard. We will achieve what is great. This is a time for American heroes and we reach for the stars.

I've said this several times, but it is still true. The second season finale, Two Cathedrals, is among the best episodes of any scripted TV show in the history of television.

It's unfortunate that some people dismiss it because they don't agree withthe politics.

Never watched it and probably never will; all I remember is that it displaced shows I really liked in the schedule and won the awards for shows I liked...

That is definitely among the best ever.

I started watching the series last year and loved it. Unfortunately, I got burnt out on it halfway through S5 but need to finish it out.

S5 seemed to be very mediocre compared to the earlier ones. Sam has gone and the episodes come across as just "filler".

Does it pick up?

He's not that bad, it's worth it to finish out the series. Alan Alda makes up for him as his opponent. Hee, though it would have been kind of cool to see Ed O'Neil as a presidential candidate.

I agree, that episode rocked. Nothing like Martin Sheen cursing God in Latin.

It picks up to a degree in season 6. That's not as good as some of the ones before it, as it focuses on the election trail and takes away from the white house. 7, though, has some stronger episodes.

Not surprising. Aaron Sorkin (the creator of the show) left after season 4. It wasn't the same after he left. The man can write.

Never got around to watching it after Season 4. I heard that Aaron Sorkin was leaving the show, and figured the show would turn into ER in the White House after his departure. Maybe someday I'll watch the post-Sorkin episodes. :(

Agreed x1000.

It's too bad that Sorkin's next show (Studio 60) was canceled. That show kinda grew on me.

They picked awesome women in that show. It was one of the earliest appearances of Liza Weil (strong crush there). So many others that were just fantastic as well.
