Re-using the Tuniq Tower

Entity

Lifer
I just removed the backing plate for the Tuniq Tower from an Intel D975XBX2 that turned out to be a bad board (I'm RMA'ing it) and am replacing the board with an Asus P5B-deluxe.

I used a hairdryer+credit card to slowly remove the backing plate from the motherboard, but the adhesive/foam that was used to back it is now more-or-less useless, and I need to figure out the best way to remount the backing plate to the new motherboard without introducing any potential shorts or anything.

Any advice would be much appreciated. 🙂

Do you have any material similar to the one on the backplate? I have used double sided foam mounting tape from Office Depot on backplates. You could also try cutting a portion of the foam off of the sheet that is on the back of the motherboard for packing. Props to you for actually getting the backplate off, I never saw how it would be possible after yanking on my tuniq. 😀

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been scouring the house but not finding much. I'll pick up some double sided foam mounting tape from the store (hopefully Fred Meyer carries it, I'd assume they would) on the way home. 😛

that's what I used.

Weatherstrip. 3/4" wide 1/4" thick, dense foam, adhesive backed weatherstrip. It only needs to stick to the backplate not the mobo, that way you can move it from board to board without difficulty.
