re: Spam, does unsubscribe work?

On every mass mailing list message there is usually a link at the bottom that states something to the effect of:

"to remove yourself from our mailing list, please click the below link"

I am sure they put this there because of some legal issues, but does familiar with the issue know if they actually remove you from the list? I have always been a little paranoid about this and i think that they just put that there to make sure they have an email address that is not a junk email account.

I had my school email untouched for ~2 years and i got my first piece of spam yesterday🙁 My email account was deflowered by someone selling books for cheap...

Nope. It's a way of letting them know that your account is checked by a live person, so that makes that e-mail address more valuable to then. So of course, you get more spam.

Fun, isn't it?

Sometimes. Depends on where you're getting SPAM from. My friend used to get about 1 Spam e-mail every 10 minutes. Told him to unsubcribe, and when he checked they were all coming from the same place. He unsubcribed, and now its about 1 spam a day only.

No. It's so they can be notified that some---

Oh. I see this thread has already been taken care of.

...I'll be on my way. Good day.

about 1 spam a day only.

whee jump up and click your heals! spam is so lame, i don't get THAT much, but it's always the same site, they'll have tons of clients that buy the same list and mass-mail from their servers....i sent an e-mail to them to remove me and it stopped for about a month, and then it started again, i waited till i had about 50 of 'em(about a day) and then reported them all to yahoo in bulk, after about a week they'd gone away......now it's just the standard enlarge your penis and home mortgate stuff

I thought I should note that you also should not even open spam. Most of them nowadays are html with tagged links back to the spammer. In other words, they can find out if your email is "live" just by you opening their spam. So... if it looks like spam, just delete it.
