Those temps seem a little high to me for idle, but there are other factors involved.

What is the ambiant room temperature?
What voltage are you running? Default?
What is your case/motherboard temperature?
Are you using the stock heatsink/fan with the thermal pad?

I am running at 32C system and 37C idle right now with 1.68vcore.
More volts/higher bus = higher temps, usually.
If I run stress testing with Prime95 for several hours, I will see temps up into the upper 50's.
I also run an Abit board which usually reports temps 5-8C higher that most mobo's.

all the settings are default. i'm using the retail hsf w/ some arctic silver 2. mobo temp reads 25C (though it always reads 25C)...

My 2.4B with AS3 and stock cooling gives me about 40C idle and 55C under load. It doesn't crash or anything like that though. My case temp is around 31C.

It's normal.

my temps are similar... a little lower in full load, but not much. those temps are w/a slight OC to 600mhz fsb.

im thinking of re-applying the as3 a little thinner. my hsf is lapped pretty good.

My 2.4b @ 3131 mhz (1.65 volts) is a steady 32C at idle and climbs to 50-51C under full prime95 load. These temps are taken with the asus probe software on a p4b533e board. I am using the new thermalright ax478 heatsink and am getting a new fan tonight for it (currently using the fan off my avc sunflower.)

When I tried a 31 cfm sunon fan and idle temps were @ 34C, full load was at 57C.

My avc sunflower setup was 32C at idle and climbed to 53C at full load. I am hoping to get 28C at idle and 45-47C under full load with the new vantec tornado fan I am picking up. I am also using AS3.

Oddly enough, If I turn my case on its side and leave the top off (side with the window off, the cpu temps drop 2C all around. I guess I need to make a blowhole in the side to force fresh air onto the processor directly since I already have 2 exhaust fans, 2 fans in the enermax PS, and 2 fans on the front blowing in. I have an alienware chieftec knockoff.

A friend of mine ordered an Alienware laptop from Best Buy with a p4 3.06 in it. When he told me the air coming out of the laptop is very hot, I tried to act surprised. Don't know the exact temps, but the whole configuration doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

You also have to consider HT is on, and all of us with 2.4bs cant. That makes it hotter, does it not?

accually my 3.06 runs 3-5 degrees cooler with hyper threading enabled  ( about 45c idle when NOT enabled :Q :Q... wtf?!?!?! )

my system runs about 40c idle and 51-56 under load... i have reapplied my as3 twice now... taking off more each time until a nice thin layer is left... NO CHANGE... my bios gives temps about 3-4 degrees higher than easytune ( not that i trust easytune really, its just a quick way for me to monitor temps until i get a probe or 2... MBM5 beeps and beeps and beeps away ~ i uninstalled that :disgust: )

~ these are default settings too ~

**EDIT**

OCed a little ~ ( temps at about 44c idle and 60c under prime95 load :(, but stable...)
150mhz fsb
2.7 vdimm (300mhz)
1.650v cpu
1.5v ( default ) agp

On my 3.06 with a SLK900 and a 92mm Panaflo I'm getting 37 idle and 52 full load w/hyperthreading on. Of course I expect it to settle down to around 34 idle and 50 full load once the ArticSilver I put on it today settles in and cures. I sure do like this SLK900, it is much more quiet than that stock hsf with the dust buster of a fan it came with.

Those are within specs and not within the range we would expect to see throttling....The retail hsf is just good enough for that speed....

If you plan on ocing any then go ahead and get youself an alpha 8942 heatsink (one of the biggest embedded copper core hs you will fine) and get a good 80mm fan that can push near 50cfm and no it under 4000rpm and 36dba.....

on my 3.06@3220mhz with thermalright slk900 delta screamer are 41 idle and 47 full load try to get better hfs I have tried 3 and settle for this it's a great hfs it works wonders it dropped nearly 8c the other day I pushed my at 3.5ghz and temperature was 44 idle and 49 full load it cost me money but it is worth it. good luck
