dont bash me either, please. Just comments on what im asking.

So i broke my old 4th gen iPod and i just got the new 5.5 gen iPod. I was wondering what new things i can or should do.

1)should i get a different firmware? what exactly does this do? Ive just heard people talking about it...
2)what are some good podcasts, or where can i get them? what exactly are they (just segments of things)?
3)How can i convert movies to play on my iPod?
4)Ive heard there is a place like youtube, except you can download things for your iPods, any ideas if this is true?
5)Any other info i should know?

Thanks a lot!

As for 3, I've found it to be a rather silly and stupid process. I subscribe to a podcast from cellojourney.com, which supplies videos of a dude playing his cello. For each episode, he puts up two files: both mpeg4, but apparently one of them is an "iPod edition". iTunes downloads them both and I can watch the videos from iTunes but it doesn't show up in the Movies category and if I transfer it to my iPod, it will only play the audio. So you can right-click the files in iTunes and select "Convert selection for iPod". I tried this for the movies that were already "iPod edition" but it gives me an error saying that it's already in iPod format (so wtf can't I put it on my iPod then? 😕 ). What does work is to do the same process for the non-iPod edition, which takes like 20 minutes on my G4, and then I have a 3rd copy of the song which finally shows up as a movie and can be played properly. </rant>

Alright, so hopefully that isn't most people's experience (might even be my stupidity), just had to whine about it for a bit 😛

1 - just get the update within itunes. it should prompt you if you installed the apple software updater.
2 - engadget podcast and the npr ones are good.
3 - quicktime pro (you have to buy it i think), videora ipod converter, ati avivo video converter, and others.
4 - google video allows you to save most of their videos to google video format, psp format, or ipod format.
5 - take care of it and grab a case. ditch the earbuds as well, as they are crapola.

when using videora what should i pick? there are so many options...and im not sure if the 5.5 gen supports a higher res than the 5 gen. any tips?

look on their forums. try the one that has h264 and 640x480 (all 5G and 5.5G supports it).

i could do:

640x272
640x360
720x306
720x320

and then i could choose a million different audio things, bitrates, etc.
