Re-Installing Win98se from .cab files

Hi, my friend got the tiazinha virus, and it messed up some of his .dll files, like wsock32.dll, run32.dll, winsock.dll. I got rid of the virus. There are still some probs, in addition to other unrelated issues, I figured that it would be easiest to just install windows again as the easiest fix.

He has the .cab files for windows, is there a way to install from thesse cabs?

thanks,

TDP

Well if you can get the setup.exe file from a Win98 cd, you should be ok.

Really, you should just go to start | run and type in "sfc" to restore those dll's.

There should be a setup.exe located in the directory where the .cab files are. I worked on my relatives HP, and Compaq Pc's and all three had it located there. If not what wyvrn stated will work too. Also did he not receive some proprietary CD's with backup for his machine...wait I guess I am assuming much... what kind (or brand) of PC is it?

Is he going to try to use the win98 (first version) cab files over the current 98SE install? I am not sure if that will work. Just pick up an Win98SE upgrade cd here in the forums, they can be had cheap. Then make a second partition D:\ and put the cab files on that partition. You can use Partition Magic to resize your partitions without losing data. I have a shareware version of PM if you need it.
