I have an old box which I just wanted to clean up and make useful again. I copied all important files over to a second harddrive and formatted the main C: drive. However, whenever I try to install 98, I keep getting an error that states windows has caused an exception and must be restarted. Well, I've tried reformatting and reinstalling numerous times - but still the same message appears. sometimes I can't even get past the scandisk part. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Same as usual, check everything is seated correctly and run Memtest. Think this could be a Ram issue...

It's been awhile, but I had a problem that sounds like yours. Forgive me, but the only thing I can remember was I found the solution in Microsofts KnowledgeBase. Feed the search engine the main parameters and it should find it. It was a software thing is all I can remember.
