Re-installed 8.1, 2nd SSD not showing up

Re-installed 8.1 to solve an update issue, before installing I unplugged my 2nd drive.
Installed 8.1, updated windows and drivers, everything appears to be working fine
Shut-down, reconnect 2nd drive, re-boot and no 2nd drive

Drive does not show up under This PC, Device manager, or Disk Management when I directly connected to the computer but does appear in the bios
Shows up and works in windows when connected via an external dock

what the heck is going on?
 
No, the OS has was never on the 2nd drive and it worked fine as the 2ndary drive in 8.1 before the re-install.
 
Well I got it working.

Changed from ACHI to IDE in the bios and forced a crash on boot, switched it back and now the drive shows up fine.
