Mine was dead also, probably from being bounced around and turned on in the mail. Unscrew the battery cover and see if there is a good contact between battery and terminal post. Probably just need a new battery. Kind of cool the Star Treky way it opens though.

Mine was dead as well!!! On top of that the riser release button is stiff. I know, because I got another one at work from Bayer Aspirin in a cool translucent red.

Mine was dead too. And the battery clip is soldered in, so into the bin it went. IWWWIPFI (It Was Worth What I Paid For It).

Mine came in an envelope with the original harshly treated box. The unit looks fine but apparently its parents dropped too much acid. I'll keep it around wishfully thinking it will work right some day, then in 6 years when I move, I will toss it.
