re-formatted and re-intsalling WinXP

i went to dual core and am reformatting my hdd because i'm having lots of BSODs

i will be installing a 300Gb SATA and a 250Gb SATA.

Is there good reasoning behind creating a separate partition for XP on my PC if I save all my music & vids on my spare hdd?

If I have to re-install XP later, all my program registrations will be gone anyway and I'd have to re-install them, right?

any other reasons to partition out my C: drive for XP? or any other tips from problems you've encounter would be great.

thanks alot.
robert.

If you move the "My Documents" folder, which contains "My Music" and "My Pictures" folders, to another partition and basically store all your data files on a partition other than your XP partition, every time you restore your XP installation, all your documents will be preserved.
Don't get me wrong; you have to backup all your data anyway.

You can then create an image of your XP installation and restore it easily whenever needed. Since all your data is on another partition, the image file will be small and easy to manage.

I also have all my emails and internet explorer favorites on the other partition. I use the XP backup utility to backup my data partition and use Drive Image to create an image of my XP partition.
