what's the easiest way to format a hard drive win XP is running on and do a fresh install of XP?? I have a friend who just swapped a bunch of new parts and old parts into a new case, and he wants to format the hard drive, and start over. But, I know you cna't format the hard drive from in XP, cause it can't erase itself. So how can he format his hard drive completely and then install XP again?

AvatarD your friend could simple boot with any boot disk and format the C: where Window XP resides. If they used NTFS they would have use the equivalent of Partition Magic 7 (or similiar program) to convert the partition or drive back to FAT32 in order to format it. The following link describes how to perform a clean install.

Clean Install

Hope this helps,
