Re edging speakers

At how many years do speakers start getting "old". My velodyne sub is about 7 years old and was wondering if these re edging kits would have a significant impact on the sound

Old foam surround just fall apart and disintegrate after a while. No sense replacing them before that.
Older Cerwin Vega speakers are especially prone to this:

So unless yours are starting to fall apart, don't bother.

I have re-foamed several Cerwin vega speakers and there were no noticeable difference in sound that I could notice.

It depends on the materials they were made out of originally. I've seen some speakers kick around for a long time and never have any issues, while others have went out in just over 5 years.

Too lazy to do it myself so I go to a pro. These guys are great and it should cost less than $50 to re-foam.
