Why doesn't Western Union, as a public service, just put up a big sign at each of their locations saying,

"If you are wiring money to Nigeria as a result of an Ebay sale, you're probably getting scammed"

It's sad that people are still falling for these 419 (429? whatever.) scams, but they could have been sharply curtailed by a simple notice at each Western Union branch.

i wouldnt be surpised if some places did that, if they were in the know. however, WU still makes cash off it, no?
so i doubt there would be a decision on the corporate level.

Good idea though. Frankly, I'm surprised at the stupidity of these people, but I doubt the companies like Western Union would, as it's been said, simply because they do make a profit from it.

Yup. Western Union doesn't care as long as the money keeps rolling in. Blatant disregard of what's right isn't limited to cigarette companies. :p

Banks will quiz elderly customers if they request a large cash withdrawal in case they are being scammed by the fake "bank examiner" story. WU could do likewise.
