Re-assign drive letters

I have a PCI Express MOBO with 1 80 GB SATA HD. I also have a DVD & a CD/RW. They're assigned drive letters c - d - e. I next installed a PCI ATA 133 controller. To that I hooked up 2 more IDE hard drives. Win XP assigned them letters f - g. I would like the hard drives to be C D E and the removable media drives to be F & G. It seems like I should be able to do this fairly easily.

MS has a blurb on their web site to open Computer Management and I can right click on a partition, logical drive or volumne and then click change the drive letter.

This is Under Start - Control Panel - Perfomance & Maintenance - Administrative Tools - Computer Management.

Anybody done this? I'm at work all day and all we have is Win2000 and I don't have Admin rights to test

Your posting to ask if the directions you received are correct because you haven't tried yet. Yes, they are correct.

From my understanding you can do that fairly easily. All drives except the C: or system drive.

Yes I can't try it yet and I wanted confrimation it should work.

Thanks it sounds easy enough. I'm thinking I'll assign the removable media drives something like H & I assign the HD's the D & E letters I would then come back and re-assign the removable media drives the F & G I want. Does that sound right.

Just make sure that you don't change the drive letters of important stuff. Because it may not change the linking in windows.

Yes if program is installed I guess it would be lost when you try to run it. I just got home and tried it extremely easy. Just remeber to put a disc in the DVD and/or CD/RW drives or Windows doesn't see the drive properly to allow the change
