A friend of mine purchased Office 2003 SBE OEM

installed and activated it
purchased a new computer
uninstalled it from old computer
installed it on new computer
called to activate it and they said NO - said OEM has to stay with the original computer and that Office is not allowed to be sold without a full computer system

I told him to call back and tell them he
formatted old computer because of a virus and now need to re-activate office
he is concerned that they kept his first call on file and that they will tell him .. didn't you just call last week?

Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this dilemma?

TIA

I doubt they'll keep his call on file. Chances are he won't even speak to the same person.

Also if he calls after-hours he won't even have to deal with an operator.

I just call and tell them I reformatted and they always re-activate for me. Don't offer them more information than they need.

Same thing happened to me. I uninstalled OEM MS Office and sold old computer and could not activate it after re-installation. I spoke with India and was under the impression that I was out of luck, but the CSR must have activated it for me without telling me because I have not been asked to activate ever since. This was 3-4 months ago. Bless those kind Indians :D
