I personally use PC133 memory in my system and I have no intention of switching to Rambus even if the price drops below the price of PC133 SDRAM, but I have a general dislike for situations where people let their personal bias (AMD vs. Intel, nVidia vs. 3Dfx, Direct RDRAM vs. PC133 SDRAM) blind them towards the pros and cons of the technology. If you don't want to buy the stuff, fine. But don't spread FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) about it.
The i820 motherboard that we are talking about, the Intel Vancouver motherboard with Direct RDRAM RIMMs (not the SDRAM MTH), is not a piece of junk motherboard. It is not unreliable and it is used in a fair number of workstations sold by Dell. PC800 RDRAM, if price doesn't matter, is approximately the equal of PC133, and is superior to it in some applications. $59 for an i820 VC motherboard is a very good deal - until you look at how much you have to pay to populate it with one 128MB RIMM.
If this combo (the i820 VC motherboard and 128MB PC800 RDRAM) drops below $200 for the pair, then I would not hesistate to recommend it to someone. Until then I feel than an SDRAM solution offers better bang for the buck.
