If CPU-Z says my 1066 memory is running at 534mhz, does that mean that there's no reason to have 1066 , and 800 would run just as well?

I've never overclocked this p4t533c, but I know it's pretty old now, and more memory would at least help. I'd like a new mobo, but this has ISA slots and AGP, so I'd need all kinds of stuff to upgrade. New case, MB, powers supply, vid card, IDE card...

Also, I think I'm using Non ECC. Do I need to be ONLY get NON ECC?

Last, I have four slots. Can I have 512 x 2 and 128 x 2 installed?

thanks for any info!!!

You got a screen cap of cpu-z?

534 is half of 1066 is it double rate or set up wrong in the BIOS. RD-ram is a bit too long ago :(

It doesn't need to be ECC.

Can you pick this stuff up cheaply? Locally its almost cheaper to buy a whole new system rather than 2 x 512 mb rd ram...

Not cheap, but about $120 for 1g.
Can I use ecc OR non ecc - i.e just any old RDRAM?

Here's the report it generated:

You do realize that for $150 you can upgrade your motherboard, cpu and memory to a much faster dual-core setup, right?

X2 4850e $60
Asus 780G $66
Corsair 2x2GB DDR2-800 $20AR

The 780G motherboard has the best integrated graphics of any board yet released. If that's not adequate for your needs you can always add a real PCIe card for <$50 that will blow away whatever AGP card you've got today.

RDRAM is dead and so is that P4. As suggested above, take your money and build a new system.

I guess I should look more into this idea of a new moboard.. I looked at the suggestions above and they look good, but for whatever reason I prefer Intel.. Similar system available? It seems like I'd have to replace case/ps as well. I have 3 IDE hard drives in it, and a SATA so I guess that's a concern also.

I'll post a more detailed info request in the section for that..

Well, any of the newer systems are going to have at most 1 PATA IDE controller so you're going to be limited to two IDE hard drives and will have to migrate onto SATA optical drive (DVDRW).

Similar Intel setup (a little more expensive but also faster):
e5200 $83
Foxconn G43MX-K $65AR

Use the same memory listed above.

To tell the truth, for most uses (including light gaming) the AMD system is going to be about equal to the Intel setup, will cost less up front and will consume less energy making it even cheaper over time. The integrated GPU on the 780G motherboard is also stronger for gaming than on this Intel G43 motherboard (which is extremely weak, at best). If you go the Intel route you will need to add a separate video card if you plan even light gaming.

Can I get a controller card that will let me use my IDE drives and DVDR?
Do modern boards still have at least a couple of PCI slots that are the same as the ones I have now?

PCI 2xIDE card $14 shipped

Use the SATA drive as your boot drive (probably do already, but just to be sure) and put the DVDRW and one HDD on the IDE controller on the motherboard. Use this card for your other drives for storage.

Thanks.
I don't have SATA as boot drive now, but I could shift data around to do so on the new system. Any reason to do that?

Any good reason to have the DVD with the onboard IDE, and not the add on card?

Seems like better would be:
1 SATA as main/boot
2 on board IDE as two data drives
3 IDE on card for last drive (which just backup) and DVD.

No?

No?

SATA as boot drive because it's probably newer than the others and therefore likely more dependable (no guarantees, obviously, but less time on a mechanical drive is better).

You will have to use the DVDRW on the onboard IDE to install the fresh OS on the SATA drive because the addon card probably won't be recognized by OS boot app without drivers loaded (PITA). Once setup is complete juggle the drives around however you like (and, yes, your layout looks good).
