I have a client with an Intel D850MV motherboard. This board has 4 memory slots that use 184 pin pc800 rdram that must be used in pairs.
my question is this, He runs cad 2006 and currently has 2x 256 and 2 blanks. Cad is obviously ram hungry and he needs upgraded. Will 4x 256 be slower than running 2x 512?

He doesn't want to pay $200 per 512 stick and I'm wondering if I can get away with 4x256.

4x256mb chips would probably be slightly slower than 2x512mb chips, but not likely by enough to make a noticalbe differance. RDRAM tends to have high latency due to the fact that the data has to pass through all of the modules, so by having 2x512mb sticks, and 2 CRIMMS, you should have slightly lower latency. I have 4 sticks in both of my RDRAM setups, one has 4x64mb sticks, the other has 4x128mb sticks. RDRAM is so rediculously expensive, I would definatly just add 2 more 256mb sticks.

Not sure if I could respond with FS message here, but I have some 850E stuff (Including RDRAM) left over from my previous machine. PM me if you're interested.
