** RD600 / NF 680i / BadAxe 2 **

I bet NF 680i will coincide with the Geforce 8 launch.

I have managed to get tremendous mileage out of my Socket 754 rig. Maybe H2 2007 will give me great reason to make a solid upgrade. Until then, I will just toy with any builds my friends may ask me to do for them. Unfortunately, everyone that needed a new rig already has got one recently. Sigh. My luck...

Lets just hope these mobos are more mature and stable than when the 965 and 570 Conroe mobos were when they first launched. This, "Get it out now and fix it later' crap is getting old.

Hello everyone.

Another vote for the RD600. I'm very intrigued to see what ATI can do with a true, dedicated C2D/Quad Core solution. I have heard that ATI has some really powerful settings in the BIOS for CPU and memory tweaking. From pics circling the forums and the web, I hope they have sort of GPU-for-Physics capability built into the board. The DFI prototype has 3 PCI-E slots...if I'm running CrossFire, I'd love to use that 3rd slot for an ATI X1600 Pro (512mb) that I have laying around as a physics processor! 😀

I believe NF680i also does away with traditional FSB which has remain as the main interconnect on Intel chipsets. The question arises, then, what is (are) the means of communication between CPU/NB/Memory on RD600/NF 680i. Will both the company utilize HyperTransport?

Assuming the NF680i lives up to its hype the BadAxe2 wont be on the same level of performance/features I'm thinking. Intel should have gotten the BadAxe2 much sooner. Its going to get lost in the 600/680i crowd I fear come launch time.

Isn't R600 dead in the water besides DFI putting out a board? I was under the impression that other manufacturers weren't going to support it due to pressure from Intel or AMD, I forget which.

The way I heard it was that the 600 series was the last Intel/ATI mobo. It was in the works before AMD bought out ATI. And it wouldnt suprise me if the mobos got problems. Each new platform seems to have alot of problems upon first release. usually due to them rushing them out before the BIOSes are matured.

Yes, there was an article on Dailytech about this a while ago. Although the DFI board is the one everyone is waiting for anyway. 🙂

In today's AnandTech QuadCore article they listed the BadAxe2 mobo as part of the test bed. AT has a BadAxe2 in their lab! I want to see a review!!

Edit: Gary Kay says early December review. /sigh
