I have been looking for one of these...the online ebooks are not really worth it, but rumor is that with the software, i can convert my technology pdf files into a compatible format. Now THAT is what I want!
I going in....somebody stop me!!!!
 

This item is New open box (no box is included though), Not Registered! Unit was powered on for test only. Serial number has been removed from case, so there may be slight marking where SN used to be.



Don't waste your money.....
 
Also remember that Pocket PC's can be had for low prices approaching the $100 mark too, and they can serve as ebook readers for *.lit via MS Reader, for *.txt (via ubook), and for many other formats via Peanut Reader, Mobi Pocket etc.
 
i guess i didn't read far enough down the page. to see the serial # thing.

as far as pda's go, i have 2, an hp 1910 and an ipaq, neither are acceptable for reading ebooks. I have tried every which way, and it is way too cumbersome. I have used one of these ebooks before from my local library, and they are outstanding.
I can live with an open box product. not too many new ones floating around anymore...at least i couldn't find them. i saw used units on ebay for $170-$200, so for $135 I would rather go for this. just my thoughts. any opinions?
 
i love my reb1100.
there is a public release macro that will convert anything you can open in word to the rocketbook format.
this screen is quite a bit larger then PDAs, i've got a toshiba e335 and a ipaq 3835 and reading on the ebook is sooo much nicer then on the pda. its not too heavy, so your legs dont fall asleep if you have a habit of reading in the bathroom. its backlite, so you can read in a darken room and not awake your mate. i have an 128meg smartmedia card in mine, so it could hold about 250 books total.

but buyer beware, gemstar, the company that sold content for this device just closed shop. so you would not be able to used the build in modem (which cantact gemstar) to buy books.

they were 399 when they first came out a few years back but they are out of production now, so 135 is not bad. the serial number doesnt matter anymore since gemstar closed. you may find new ones in box for around 200
 
That's kinda what i was figuring. I like my tech books, but they are unreadable on the small PDA screens, too many pages to print out, and uncomfortable to read on my laptop. I ordered one...i NEED it 😀
 
I still have not come acros any .lit books. most of mine are pdf.
I have been poking around the net, and supposedly there are all sorts of programs to convert from one format to another. I can't wait till i get mine!
Anyone here with any good resource pages?
 
Anyone have some links for software on these things? I ordered one, and expect it before the weekend...i want to get versed on these things quick! 🙂

there is a link to download a converter that will convert contents to copy to your smart card that can be read on the reb1100. I'll post here as soon as i can find a link to that ms word macro, which uploads it to your ebook via the usb

Size, size, size
PDAs are a good size for what they do....PIM
for an ebook reader, although weight is important, i don't like it too small. Paperback size is the smallest I want to go.
Probably the same reasons that paperbacks are no smaller than they are. I don't think many people would want to read a PDA sized book 😉
 
I'm still trying to figure out why you would be dumb enough to spend money on a product without a serial number. Is that crap stolen or what?
 
I guess, because i am not dumb, but rather called RCA, and they told me that it is part of a liquidation agreement that the serial numbers be removed, as they (RCA) no longer support or warranty the item. They also verified that the serial number is still accessible through the onscreen menus, and cannot be erased from the firmware.
It's all about doing your homework 😉
I doubt people list stolen stuff on websites....fleabay maybe....
