i always use a 4x4 peice of wood about 8 feet long, 3 in the ground w/ 1 bag of cement mix, pour in cement mix w/o water, moisture from the ground will harden it, if you need more hight on it, buy a mast (pole) then fasten that w/ u-bolts to the 4x4

I'm putting in a 6x6x6 tonight for my install on Friday, two feet into the ground with quickcrete should do the trick.

why waste the money on a pole ?

Just attach the dish to your house, the satellite is about 60 degree angle which should clear most trees.

Pole was free, if I ever decide to re-side my house, which I probably will in a few years or so, I won't have to mess with it.
