its a completely different project, its an encryption challenge 64 bit to be exact, its a psudo encryption scheme developed by RSA who challenged anyone willing to brute force crack it. who ever does it gets 10,000 bucks, however since its through Dnet they get 6 grand the team gets 1 grand and charity gets the rest.

what else ya wanna know :).

BTW welcome :)

It's a different distributed project that is using a brute force method to crack an encryption code, a contest sponsored by RSA. Go to Distributed Net or Team Anandtech for more information.

Team Anandtech participates in a number of distributed processing projects. :D

Hey, I think Narzy got the prize money a little bit mixed up (or maybe its changed). Here's a cut and paste job from the Dnet web site:

$1000 to the winner
$1000 to the winner's team - this would go to the winner if he wasn't affiliated with a team
$6000 to a non-profit organization, decided by vote
$2000 to distributed.net for building the network and supplying the code

So there's a $1000 bucks for the winner.

The project is 68% complete, and no one has won yet. The odds are now about 1 in 340 that somebody will win each day, so its probably a good time to jump into the project.
