I know there is alot of tention between Dnet and RC5 due to the mcowen issues, and many of you have sworn not to participate in ANY dnet or dnet sponser project again. however listen up.

if we pool our resources to the end of the year, (143 daysish) we can finish this project, leave dnet with a positive impression. then go back to our respective projects. the dmcowen issue was big, huge even and very very stupid, lets put that past us for this project and crunch it to hell, come out winning and "sticking it" to the competition. I will be migrating all my machines back to RC5 for the next 4ish months to see if we can't knock this project. then going back to folding at seti.

lets show dnet the knockout punch and get that key for ourselves! :D.

agreed..

PLUS the faster we end RC5 the faster the RC5 exclusive participants (including myself) can (and will) use their machines for other TA projects..

Exactly why I put UD-Think on hold and am "putting out" like an RC5 ho.

Then again, half of my supply doesn't have a hard drive or Internet, so when RC5 and OGR are done, I may be struggling to find a contest. I have one Win2k box, connected to a 24-port hub, and 5 dumb units attached. And, it is all sneaker-netted.

OGR may never be done. When OGR-24 and OGR-25 are complete DNet could start OGR-26. The current clients can go at least that far. There are at least two other projects that are noNet friendly. But this is a thread about RC5. As of last night 85.748% of the keyspace had been searched. At the present rate 100% of the keyspace will be searched by January 21, 2003. Let's get on with it.

Again, I agree. I have been with the project since I started doing DC projects. I am going to stick with it until it is done. I hope other people feel the same way.

I also comend other members that decide to continue with their respected DC projects. But it would be nice to smash the other teams and finish this in TA style.

I agree with your strategy. Seti will allways be there. RC5 and ECCP have an end . The odds get better everyday with RC5 and ECCP. It is like buying a reverse lottery ticket when 85% of the tickets have been drawn with RC5. The same with ECCP. Now is the time to take the money, someone else did most of the work now is the time to get in. If TeAm had a Borg Queen she would insruct all members to do RC5 for a time to get this monkey off of our back. A student body left to RC5 would be a good play IN MY HUMBLE OPINION. I know this team does not work like that. We are a diverse group of people doing what what we please. Would winnning $1000 please you? The odds get better everyday! It is like buying a lottery ticket put a buck (day) into it, you may win. I would really like to see a TEaMate solve this and ECCP. The solution is the real prize in these contests ( can you picture a BORG with a monkey on his back ?)

That's the spirit Tim.

It wasn't the project's fault, just people around it. Don't forget the State wanted to go after Distributed.Net itself after they were through with me. I'm all for whatever fellow TeAmates here agree to do. Please people do not focus on that "Award money", members here said in the very beginning would donate to Charity.

While this sounds good, I must refrain. I vowed to never run a distributed.net project again because of the McOwen incident, and I do not make such vows lightly. It pained me to leave RC5, as it has many fond memories of classic races, support from teammates, not to mention all of the technical knowledge I picked up along the way. I also feel that is is still the best written DC client out there, with built in SMP, caching, network file sharing, etc. :)

I'm usually a forgive and forget person, however, I do have a very short list of things that fall in the "I vow to never" category. I did seriously vow to never run RC5/OGR again, and I plan on sticking to that vow. I swore 18 years ago when Sears:| screwed me over to never purchase another thing from them again. I have strictly adhered to that vow, even though I really loved their hand tools.

I am not trying to persuade others against running RC5. This is my own personal value system, and no one but myself is judged against it. :)

Best of luck! :)

Wow, and I thought I held a grudge long! ;) :p

David: I hear what you're saying but I still don't like that Dnet didn't support you and I think it's pretty big of you to have no hard feelings even while others (myself incluced) do.

To be honest, I'm really hooked on F@H, but if I manage to get a dual-Duron rig doing ECCp, then I'll put the dual p166 rack on the RC5 project. :)

I've always been in rc5 and it pained me to see Anandtech slip from top spot to 2nd and 4th in the overall/daily rankings...but I still expanded my fleet and pressed on anyway...I'd really hope we could get back the #1 spot, but our days are numbered and unless a massive collaborated effort is performed, its just about impossible.

Of course I'll still do my part by cracking 24/7 with my 3 machines.

I intend to finish up RC5 with a bang. I'm currently in the process of finishing the basement in my new house to accomodate my home office. When done, the fleet will be bigger and faster. My goal will be 10k / day until the project ends. Might have to pick up a couple of those ECS mobo's / XP 1600's to accomplish that ;)

Ok, you convinced me, narzy. My fleet (of two) gets switched to RC5 for the time, and as soon as said project is complete, it goes back to Folding@Home.

I gotta start doing RC5 now. How do I join the team though?

Edit: nevermind about the question.

I'm on RC5 until it's over. It would be cool to see a big push from now to the end.

Yea, that's what I'm trying to help with (though with an 800mhz and a 500mhz system I only put out 4 MKey/sec according to my proxy). :(

Anyway, I've got a question - I started submitting blocks yesterday evening, and when I checked this morning, I was (and am) still not in the stats (even though it says it was updated very close to midnight yesterday). Is there any way I can see if I'm doing something wrong on this end, or are dnet's stats still screwed up?

jliechty, "midnight" is midnight GMT, or 5pm PDT. Wait until tonights stats are ready before you get too worried.
