RC5 Graphical Stats from my own proxy

SilverBack

Golden Member
I have been letting each of my pc's update automatically to Mika's pproxy.
What I would like to do is track each pc here at home and have the stats available at anytime.
Then I would flush my rc5 work units to Mika's several times a day.
I understand I would need to let one of my machines be a proxy here then fetch and flush from that pc.
Is there a software package that will let me follow my stats easily this way?
What software is Mika running?
Thanks in advance,

Silverback,

Good to see you're hooked 😉

I don't know if you've already got the pproxy software, if you don't it's available here.

The stats package Mika uses is available here, and is called ppstats. It's easy to setup if you're familiar with *nix, but can be a little confusing if you're not. The readmes are ok, and there are good explanations in the .ini files, just remember that everything directory related has to be done with a / and not a \... You also have to have perl for whatever OS you run this on, Active Perl for win32 is available here, linux and other *nix's come with perl...

I suggest you try, and if/when you're stuck come back and you know we'll help out! 😎

Oh, and I forgot... you also need a program called GNUPlot to make the graphs... it's available here for win32, and here for *nix

again good luck!

Pretty darn quick reply 🙂
All my boxes here are used in some fashion and they are all Win32.
There is a win32 pproxy, will this work the same way with the GNUPlot?
Thanks again 🙂

According to the PPStats page "Supported platforms for version 7.1 include Windows 9x/NT, Linux, FreeBSD, and UNIX. Version 8.0 of ppstats will be supported initially on only Linux and FreeBSD."

Hmmm I'll have to give it a go 🙂

Heh, we try... we try 😎

The GNUPlot is the program that makes the graphs you can see at Mika's... it's accessed by ppstats to make those graphs, and I probably should warn you... almost everyone has problems with it, I think I was the lucky one since I didn't have problems with GNUPlot, I had plenty of other probs tho'😉

I'd also suggest you run your pproxy on a NT/2000 box, since you can have it running as a service in NT OSs... and they're generally more stable of course...

Oh, well back to work I go I'll check back later

Most of the problems encountered were due to different versions of Wgnuplot and the pathname to the executable file.

I'll try and have it running tonight.
I have class all day today until 5 pm. So his evening should be a little fun 😉

What OS are you running on the machine you'll use for a pproxy?

There are a number of Stats Generators, that aren't as "heavy" as ppstats, if you're just monitoring a few machines.
