RC5 core selection Question

LANMAN

Forgive me if anyone has already asked this question but....

I'm bench marking RC5 on a AMD 1.3Ghz CPU resulting in 4.7mk/sec, but then I jump on a P4 1.7 and it's barely hitting 2.1

Do Intel chip just suck at RC5 or is the autoselect picking the wrong core? (Using the latest client from Dnet)

Thanks in advance,

The last time I saw a post from ViRGE about this subject, he said to check on one of the "pre-release" clients as the performance from those was a little better than the default client; but RaySun2Be is quite right - an AMD processor is better suited to RC5 than SETI(as compared to a P4). Maybe you should check around and see if someone is willing to do a swap with you.. you crunch SETI for them, they crunch RC5 for you. 😉

Somebody posted something about getting 3.8MKey/s using a P4 and one of the pre-release candidates. 😕 Not sure what speed P4...

But that is a heckuva lot better than what it is doing now and puts it on par with a 400MHz or 500Mhz G4... 😛 😉

Yep, it's better with the lastest pre-release client - almost 2KK/mhz - but it pales in comparison with anything else. Find someone with a G4/Athlon to run RC5, and then let SETI take a shot at that P4. Oh, and to put things in comparison, Apple's newest tower, dual 1.25ghz G4's, 21.7 Mk/sec.😉

Speaking of autoselecting..
Does the newest client not know Athlon XP ???

I have tried to benchmark my Athlon XP 1800+, but it cant detect the cpu, and run an autoselect sequence 🙁

What core is the best??

I have this version : dnetc v2.8015-469-GTR-01051421 for Win32

dual 1.25ghz G4's, 21.7 Mk/sec :Q

OMG!! Tell me that isn't a typo! That's the speed of half my fleet!! Daaaammmnnnnn......

:Q :Q :Q

Ditto and dasm straight! :Q

😀

soni, 470 is the first client that recognizes the XP I believe. 473 is the first to recognize the Tbred. And LANMAN, that's not a typo.😉 Why do you think I'm #2 in TA's daily stats?😛

You said and I quote, "APPLE" :Q

"Luke come to the 'darkside'...." 😀

Man with that kind of key rate though, it's very tempting.

C&P from pricewatch.

OUCH!!!

Hey, I didn't say it was cheap.😉 If you want cheap G4's, try the eMac: $1100 for ~6MK/sec.

Actually, now that I do the math...

Dual 867mhz G4, $1700
15085.8KK/sec(15MK/sec)
8.874KK/$
.112$/KK

I'm curious, can anyone put together a complete system(sound, LAN, modem, CD-RW, keyboard, mouse, HD) that can do more RC5 for the money? Multiple systems(say, 2 $850 systems) will be accepted. How about barebones systems? Macs have always been fast, but beaten in $/KK. I think these recent price drops change that.

XP based dual AMD probably, my dual XP1700 did about 10.3Mk/s on lun1x. I'm not familiar with US retail prices so I can't help you with that.

Yes, but i cant find any newer client, thats not a PRE-release 🙁
So how to get a release client that recognizes XP??

Soni, the pre-release clients are perfectly fine; I don't know why Dnet doesn't make them release.
