RC5 computer

Hi,
I have an old PC, AMD k-6 II laying around here doing nothing. I think I want to add this to run RC5. It only has a small, like 170MB HD.

What OS config should I run to get the best RC5 performance??

scooch that machine is better off runing seti.... you should go down to the free , trade or sell message and see if anyone is willing to trade since i think you get better times with a k6 3 in seti over rc5 🙂 just a thought if not i guess you can go klinux...

that thing should be running OGR. the TeAm needs help with that project too. i dunno if you can use klinux to run OGR or not, although it does have the full dnet client so you should be able to run it. the best part of klinux: its one floppy, no hard drive required. if you'd like to use the machine, a minimal windows 95 install is under 100 megs.

EDIT : forgot to mention that k6s are better by far in OGR than anything else.

Klinux does OGR, although the minimal Win 95 install with the 463b client woulb be a little more efficient 😉

NT Workstation would be a bit too big for that 170 drive, but more reliable.

You might look in here and find someone to swap projects with you.

I agree with Viz and the others, Win95 + 463B client would be faster at OGR.

Klinux is geared toward RC5, and it uses the 463 client which is a little slower under Linux doing OGR then the 462 client.

If you don't want to swap projects, then by all means yank the HDD, add a nic card and run Klinux.
