RC5 72 - Strange Stats

So on the Stats Page for the RC5-72 project (stats.distributed.net - RC5-72 Overall Project Stats )
The total for yesterday was: 12,932,645 blocks

Yet, when you check the top 100 participants from the same day (stats.distributed.net - RC5-72 Participant Listing by Yesterday's Rank: 1 to 100 )
Stoneageman (at the top), completed 14, 942.405 blocks.

So how can the whole total for the day be 12 million, when just one person did 14 million by themselves?

Something is jacked up... no? Nothing is in the blogs page (that hasn't been updated since 2019)
I emailed the support team to see what they say, but numbers don't lie. ** Shrug **

You posted 15 minutes before the UTC day wrap, after which the stats are supposedly updated. So *in theory*, the site should have shown consistent stats from August 23 when you checked.

Right now:
"Data shown reflects all blocks received as of 24-Aug-2022 at 23:59 UTC. Current time is 25-Aug-2022 11:52:28." (Give or take a few minutes.)

Not exactly the same as 25,291,396, but close. 2,915 blocks are missing in the participants tables. The reason is most certainly that there are 2,915 more records which cannot be displayed, because there can be only 100 rows per chart but there are more than 100 one-block entries which have all the same rank of 844.

BTW, it's not particularly easy to submit exactly one completed block per day, using current clients. Either these folks have very old clients, or the one-block stats entries are a defect in the stats keeping.

I was able to get a response from the RC5 admins -- Mike said for that specific days stats:....

"The script that does the summary page had a problem yesterday, and continued to show the numbers for the day before.
The total for yesterday was about 155 million units - most of which came from Moowrap contributors. The Moowrap server hadn't connected to the network for several days."

As far as I see for the past week, everything has returned to normal.... no wondering "cows". 🙂
