RC Plane

Behind my house there is a very large park with a huge grassy area ... ideal for flying a small remote control plane (I think).
I will probably never become a huge enthusiast (spending lots of $$$$ on rc planes) but I think it would be a fun thing to try out since I have the park there.
I am therefore looking for a cheap rc plane (more toy than professional rc plane hobbiest).
At the same time I of course want to get the best rc plane possible ...
(should be durable so it can crash once in a while 😉)
Looking to spend maybe $20 - $50ish ...

I looked around AT as well as on the intarnet and found lots of links ... any thoughts what I should get?

B29 for $37
Lots of planes ... ?
B29 for $40
Sky Ranger for $25
Air Hogs Dominator for $30
Sky Curiser for $20
AirHog Defender for $37
AirHogs F-16 for $30
Towerhobbies ... lots of different planes ...
Accipiter Badius for $69
B2 for $50

Cool crashing video ... I definitely need a sturdy plane!!!!

Air Hog RC Aero Ace -Bi-Plane. This should cost you no more than $30 at Toys R Us or Target. It's about the friendliest RC plane for beginners. I think a whole bunch of ATers have one. I bought one a couple months ago when the hype was going on.

This week my aero ace (bi-plane) has spent about 3 hours being flown by elementary school kids in a small gym that's about 20x40. I'd say about 80% of the flights end with the slamming full speed into a wall / the ceiling / metal chairs / ventilation ducts / other kids / etc.

So far it's still in great shape (had is since August). For flying outside though, you basically have to use it with no wind. Light breezes will demand your full attention to not lose it.

I'm totally satisfied with the $30 I paid for it.

my gf bought her father the B2 you mention($50) for about $40 at walmart. I liked flying it much better than the aero ace since its bigger and can handle a bit of wind.

Aero Ace all the way, just avoid the Jet version - get the biplane instead. Anything bigger or faster will break more easily. Like Jelloman said, you can crash it into just about anything and it's small enough/slow enough that it's just fine.

I probably would have bought the aero ace but last time I was at Toys R Us, they didn't have it. 🙁

I also really like that B29 - it's only $10 more, has 4 propellers and looks more professional ... is it better?

Maybe I will try this coming weekend to get the aero ace and if I can't I will go for the B29 ...

Sorry - apparently the planes at raidentech are only bad copies of Airhogs ...

er... if it was available 🙁 😱

how much space would I need to fly one of these? Could I launch one in a apartment building hall way or in a smallish living room just for shits?

For the aero ace, I'd say 50' x 50' and 20' ceilings would be a decent area indoors. You could fly it down a hallway or something, but it's not going to be any more exciting than one of those rubber band powered planes if you just use it in a straight line.

Even a rather large livingroom wouldn't work well.

Hrm. My apartment complex has a courtyard thats completely surrounded by building thats 8 stories high....I bet that space would be perfect.

Can these planes to loops and barrel rolls and stuff?

That's why I am considering the B29 very seriously ... I like the look better than the B2 look.

The turning on them are just controlled by creating a difference in the speed of the two motors. altitude is gained by just turning both motors to a higher speed. There aren't any movable surfaces on the wings/tail.

Thus the best they can do it some climb / dives and spirals and combinations of them. That's not to say there haven't been some fancier moves due to wind gusts and such. Even with limited options, they're really a lot of fun. I'm sure nothing compared to the more expensive stuff, but the aero ace is very easy to fly and you'd have to be trying to destroy it for it to get damaged. My greatest fear with it is losing it in a tree rather than crashing into... well... anything.

Your environment does sound like a good one though.

Parking lots (without any cars of course) or a big open grassy field would be my settings of choice.

By the way, if you are just learning how to fly, please buy a plane that has motors on the wings and not the nose. You'll destroy a prop/motor that is on the nose of a plane the first time you dive it into the ground. Then the plane is ruined. If the prop/motors on the wings they'll have a better chance of survival.

For the money you will not find a more fun to play with cheap plane that handles damn good as there two go. I cannot reccomend anything elses other then to get there anbd not the knock offs that can be had for $10 cheaper for they may look the same but the cheaper ones DO NOT FLY!

I own them both, are a ton to fly and easy to fly at that and well worth the money. Just try to get more then one battery. Got aboyt 150-250 in the air (must be 1-5mph or indoors) but soooooo much fun to start off with and spare parts can be found.

Here is a site with a video of it flying BUT BUT they are not selling the Global Wattage ones but the knock offs that I have had 3 of them one still new in the box for its no point in trying to get it to fly at all.

The Global one charge the battery and it really does fly. I have owned 2 of the first ones and and still flying the 2nd one. TI bought 5 of the others 3 for me and 2 for my sons and not ONE would fly right or not at all. Cant stress this enough to get the one from tower and make sure it says Global Wattage with the stick contoller.

Here are some video of Air plane flying at its best and sometimes worst. Well worth the wait for them to start or right click and save.
The Joenails are great to watch IMO and they have others as well.

I got the jet version aero ace at Target after trying all the Tosy R Us in the area for the bi-plane.
It is a lot of fun and flies very well.

More later

If you want a Biplane, I have a spare or four.

If you're looking to upgrade, you have thre options: Small, smaller, and insanely small. "small" is Blue Arrow servos and stadard gear, "Smaller" is the Falcon Breeze Block, and "Insanely Small" is anything made by Plantraco.
