Not that one......

Are you looking for a on-road car, or an off-road truck/buggy?

You probably want a truck then. If your new to RC, I would probably stick with electric. Something like as Associated RC10 T3.

what about the helicopters? saw a few for 50 bucks that will do around 50-70 feet in the air. are they cheaply made? like break if it crashes a few feet aboev the ground?

note im just looking for some entertainment, not to start as a hobby.

50mph, right

don't buy that crap

gas (nitro) vehicles are much faster and much more fun; however you need to have some handy skills

on road cars are a blast, hella fast - but you need to have lots of space to run them, and the surface needs to be semi smooth

off road cars are more versatile, but you're still limited in terrain. Pavement will eat through your tires really fast.

You also need to consider what kind of usage your RC invesement will get.
A lot of people are "backyard bashers" - these are people who use their RC in their yard or at the park and enjoy taking HUGE jumps that usually result in breakage.
The cycle for a backyard basher is:
1. go fast, take jumps, do wheelies, burn outs, ram into stuff
2. have tons of fun, provide amusement for all spectators
3. break something
4. tape it on the field
5. repeat steap 1 and 2
6. break something different
7. quit for the day
8. Fix RC
9. goto 1

I'm a backyard basher and a racer, unfortunately i don't know crap about small gas engines (which is why i'm selling my truck) and going back to electric.

if you're a backyard basher, buy something durable.
nothing is worse then spending 5 hours fixing the thing for 10 minutes of fun, only to break something again

dont plan on ramping it, etc. i dont care about 80mph, 50mph is very fast for a small car, i just want something to play with out in the pastures with my dogs. dont need a gas powered one, too much $. i was just wanting something that will go a little faster than my old tyco RC(the one that can flip on both sides) and that will last aroudn 30 minutes on a full charge.

ayn ideas?

a helicopter would be cool, saw they only had about 15 minute charges though.

helicopter should be much more than that for a decent one.

check www.towerhobbies.com get an off road Stadium Truck, 2 wd Associated makes good stuff. maybe you could get the HPI Nitro Savage it will let you bash, go decently fast and its HUGE.

i have the HPI NMT its older and its quick.

Id love to have an onroad car though. or a buggy.

MIKE

you won't get near 50mph
my balls out adam drake xxxnt tops out at 39 on pavement with onroad tires

you won't get 30 minutes on a full charge either - unless you go tyco or something similar

you'll need to get 4 battery packs to come close to 30 minutes...but it'd be worth it

if you can afford it, get an E-maxx

i've got an rc10 t3 that i like, i drive it around the yard and on the local playground (dirt! yay!). not sure how fast it goes, but definately faster than the old school tyco stuff. you can always upgrade it out the butt til it will go faster. if you really want to do pastures and stuff i'd probably look at an e-maxx or even a tamiya monster truck. not as much speed, but it'll go a lot more places.

that link on my first post has a 2 meg video of the car, it looks just right but now i saw a tank that shoots bb's:Q

i can just imagine my dad sitting on the couch, then all of a sudden he sees a tank roll around the corner, stroll up to him and shoot him in the leg then drive off, man that would be halarious.

so many decisions

That's IF you are using off road tires. I have three sets of tires, 1 road, 1 offroad, and one that sucks on both.

For anything under $200, you are not going to be able to go with race quality cars.

I'd go with a nitro truck, those are fun. The Traxxas T-Max is great, lots of aftermarket parts available.

if you can spend a little more money go with a Traxxas Rustler RTR with the elctronic speed control I had one of these as my first RC car and I loved it. I've since gotten out of the hobby but i've been tempet to get another rustler just to bash around with. also if you plan on running on road pick up another setup of wheels/onroad tires so you don't ruin your offroad ones

If you have one, check out your local hobby store. You will greatly appreciate having someone local to go to w/ questions and get parts. You can get a decent little rig to run around, but I doubt for $50. And no, you will be NO where near 50 mph or 30 min run time. Buy a couple batt packs and yer all set and a decent charger.
As for the helis, forget about those. I fly them. Both nitro and electric. And unless you wanna spend some serious $$ and time, don't do it. They are addictive, but can be very frustrating and expensive and are hard to learn.

im not gonna make this a hobby, just something to play with in the yard with my dog, maybe once or twice a week, nothing more. just figured that one of those 40 dollar heli's would be fun to hide and stalk my dog with;)

in all serious, im sure ill buy that one in the link and play with it for a few weeks, then give it away to a kid or something, since its the season of giving:D
