Trying to use bluetooth to move files to a Cingular Razr V3 from a laptop. I'm new to bluetooth. From what I understand, you first pair the devices, then use a protocol called OBEX to transfer files.

The laptop has bluetooth built in, and the pairing starts OK up until the laptop says it has detected a modem then asks me for all the settings to set it up for dial-up networking (phone number, username, password, etc.). I don't want to use it as a modem. I think its supposed to see it as a different device.

Have searched for a couple days for an answer but can't find anything.

You probably need to use motorola phone tools to set up a connection with the laptop.

I'm sure if you new the proper place to look you could find it...;)

I'm using the bluetooth wizard. But my laptop (a Toshiba) has its own Toshiba-branded bluetooth stack and I am beginning to wonder if that's not the source of my problem. I suppose if the Toshiba stack isn't able to properly "recognize" the ability to transfer files to the V3, it's never going to work. I am using the latest version of the Toshiba bluetooth utilities.

I have found numerous messages from people who have done it with bluetooth using USB bluetooth adapters on their PCs, so I know it's possible.

No, don't have MPT. That will be my fallback plan, but it should be possible without it.
