Isn't there some giant online shop that sells razorblades in bulk for cheap? Guys are loyal to their razors, we can buy blades in bulk. I should be able to buy Mach3 blades for something less than $16 for 8.

why dont you buy a bag of disposals? For the real cheep ones, you can get a bag of 11 for about a buck.

I think they are a little more than that ;)

Cryogenically tempered too!

I think in the first link it says a 4 pack of Mach 3 cartridges... so thats 16 blades? 4 blades per cartridge?Sounds ridiculously cheap... or do they mean each catridge is a blade? so only 4 blades?

I wish! they really mean 4 blades, just like in the picture. I bought 24 for $35 and forgot about buying blades for a year (I'm asian)
Oh and check FW, there's some tips in there to help keep your blades sharp like rinse them with only cold water, keep the blades in alcohol. etc..

I used to have an electric, but I had to replace the blades about twice a year at 40 bucks each, not really worth it after a while.

well for starters, most of them don't shave as well as a Mach 3 or Extreme 3 (although the Extreme 3 are available in disposable form). but i just don't like disposable razors. call mle a greenie, but it just seems so wasteful. throwing away all that plastic when all you need is a new blade. i dunno, that's just how i am.

don't like disposable cameras either. :)

Uh, that's more expensive than retail for the turbos, not less, especially after factoring in shipping.

And I've been meaning to ask the good chemists, engineers, and metallurgists around here, can dipping razor cartridges in a vat of liquid nitrogen (or whatever they do) actually make them last longer?

And if so, how? (I assume the blades are some kind of low-mid grade stainless steel.)

I'm very skeptical. I can see how a super-chilled blade could be harder, but these warm right back up to room temperature, so why wouldn't that put them right back into the same condition they were in prior to their chilly treatment?

you obviously didn't read the faq, they last 3-4 times longer than regular blades. (from my experience only twice as long though)

I have read the FAQ past, and I just read it again before posting. It doesn't answer the question on any scientific level. That's why I'd like some educated opinions, opinions of people who aren't selling the damn things.

They say they last 3-4 times longer, you say they last 2 times longer, and I myself, who has not tried them because of the cost, am skeptical that once the metal warms back up to room temperature, it's physical properties could be any different than they were before the process.

A short kinda basic thing on cryogenic tempering.

Yes cryogenic tempering helps metals last longer, but with razors I don't know if it is worth spending extra money on...

also, how do they cryogenically treat the metal for those razors? The razor heads have plastic in them, and plastic wouldn't be able to sustain liquid nitrogen... do they take the individual blades out? I think its a farce.

I don't know about cryogenically tempering metals, but I do know that the properties of a metal are not based solely upon their current temperature, but on their history as well.

I wonder if one could 'cryogenically' temper your blades by sticking them into a jug of liquid nitrogen. though i guess that would probably screw up the plastic case?

edit: a bit late, i guess that's what happens when you go use the bathroom in the middle of posting.

They're not very big, just shove 'm in your pocket when nobody's looking. Alternatively you could use a gun or jump off of a building...

yeah, on ebay they generally go for a dollar a piece or less, depending on what time the auction ends & the sellers feedback. I bought 40 mach 3 blades for $28 shipped last year. I ended up running through them in about 8 months, & have had to resort to buying a pack here & there in walgreens until I find a decent deal at better than a buck a piece again.
