Razer mouse settings (Synapse 2.0) vs. default Win7 settings

I have a Razer Taipan, and decided to finally install Synapse 2.0. I did it only because I wanted to be able to turn off some of the buttons (especially the sensitivity changing buttons, as I'd hit them by accident and that would make me mess things up in-game).

Unfortunately, and as predicted, it comes with all these other options, but more importantly, changes the "feel" of the mouse from Win7's default, even before I manipulate any of these options.

Does anyone know the default DPI settings that the mouse runs in, without any specific drivers installed, on Windows 7? Even at 1800 DPI, it feels a bit different. I tried 1700 and it feels too slow, and anything above 1800 is way, way too sensitive.

I tried turning on "Enhance pointer precision" in the Windows Control Panel (I had it enabled before Synapse), and that made things much better, but it still feels a bit off. It's also annoying because I have to manually turn it on every time I restart.

My best guess would be an acceleration issue. Remap the buttons to what you want in Synapse, make sure acceleration is turned OFF and all sensitivities are unaltered. Uninstall (or remove from startup) Synapse, turn EPP back on in Windows.

Wait, so I don't need Synapse actually present on the system to maintain the button mapping?

Correct, your mouse has internal memory that should allow it to retain the settings you apply in Synapse.

I'm 99.99% sure I didn't alter anything by accident, but now I'm afraid I did, so it's keeping me from uninstalling Synapse.

I'm sure there is an option to reset the mouse to factory defaults. A complete uninstall isn't required, you can just remove it from startup if you don't ever want it messing with things.

I did what you suggested. It seems to like to pick and choose what settings it keeps despite Synapse being gone.

Sensitivity buttons do nothing - good.
Side buttons work - bad.
Logo LED is always off - good.
Scroll wheel LED is always on - bad.

There's nothing wrong with using synapse. If you want full control of your mouse, you need to run it. If you are freaked out about the cloud, google synapse offline mode.

In theory, yes. But the mouse feels a bit different with Synapse running, even at "default" settings. It also constantly disables EPP in Windows Control Panel, which is annoying.

It can cause problems. My Ouroboros would sometimes skip for the first 15 seconds of loading/unloading Synapse including if it was in Windows startup. I just can't see a single reason to use it after the mouse is configured the way you want it.

Macros and scripting are much better handled by third party software (AHK). Maybe if the battery level tab worked it would have a single useful function. Mine says it's charging even though it isn't plugged in right now.
