The DPI is just insane, and just like with the Lachesis vs G9, it looks like Razer pulled all the stops to one-up Logitech's 5000dpi G9x. Granted, once you get up above 2000+ it starts getting completely silly (at least IMO and most other peoples' as well)

The more impressive feature to the new sensor seems to be in its IPS and acceleration performance, perhaps we'll finally have laser based mice (the G9x looks greatly improved in this area as well) that even the most demanding low sensitivity users can love.

Of course I mentioned that they one-upped Logitech with the slightly more impressive sensor specs (and it seems to be pretty trivial at this point) but the real one-upping is with the fact that this thing can go wired or wireless...Pretty sure Microsoft is doing something similar, but this mouse has the ability to plug in to a USB cable to use and charge at the same time.

Shape looks pretty much identical to the DeathAdder, which should be a pretty big plus for most.

Price @ $129...not so much...

Very nice mouse. But the price, ouch! I don't need that much DPI and I suspect most people dont either. I hope they release a wired only version for half the price.
What I really like is the 2 extra buttons they added next to the left mouse button. The buttons are more accessible than those placed below the wheel mouse. I can definitely see me using those as the 2 thumb buttons on my MX510 aren't enough for me.

yeah, the DPI is useless IMO, and I'm sure most will agree there, but Razer and Logitech seem destined to be in this never ending e-penis arms race to debut with the highest DPI. When Logitech announced the insanely high 3200DPI G9 last yearish, Razer one-upped them with an even more insane 4000DPI Lachesis.

Again, I think the improvements elsewhere to the laser sensor are more interesting, as it sounds like they made it more robust and reliable (ie it shouldn't produce negative effects such as unwanted tracking acceleration or pixel skipping) under the most demanding uses.

But yeah, just like with Logitech, the price is quickly going in the wrong direction. The G9x isn't much better @ $99 and the new G19 keyboard is supposed to be $199 for what is essentially a 320x240 color screen...the damn thing even has 6 fewer macro keys than the original G15 as far as functionality is concerned...

However I think Microsoft is supposed to be cooking up something similar in terms of a hybrid wired/wireless gaming mouse, maybe their solution will be more reasonably priced, however perhaps at a cost of performance.

if you watch some of the videos it shows the docking station and that you can take the cord from the docking station and plug into the mouse to use it wired, so you can charge it docked on the station or while you're even using it

Yes, 5600DPI is ridiculous and useless... Also I doubt I would use wireless even if Razer says it has practically the same performance. Also the price point is just ridiculous $130 for a mouse? Granted it's a wireless mouse but still... It's almost double the price of the Lachesis

Thanks for pointing that out as I didn't watch the videos. It's still a little steep for a mouse, granted it'll drop with time.

Did anyone read that DailyTech link to mouse testing? LINK it has me rethinking just how much DPI and how much laser vrs optical really mean

That article is pretty old, and it was comparing optical mice in their prime vs. lasers when they were pretty brand spankin new. Now that lasers have had some time to mature, the newest generation of laser mice (Microsoft Sidewinder X8, Logitech G9x, Razer Mamba) appear to have laser sensors that trump older optical sensors (even Razer's acclaimed 3G infrared optical) in every way, not just DPI. Where lasers would fall apart in that article, the newer ones are supposed to hold up even better...of course this is all according to the technical specs, and real world performance very well could be different, we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm trying to find a Roccat Kone in the USA. Seems like they are only sold in europe. Still using my MX 510 which is too small for my hand.

not only "like" the DeathAdder, the form is identical to the DeathAdder...the Mamba is essentially a DeathAdder 2 :p

it isn't surprising though, they're alienating many users enough through its steep price, so they're appeasing as many remaining as the can, and the vast majority of users are righty palmers who absolutely love the DA's form factor

also, Razer's most recent mouse (prior to Mamba) is the Salmosa which is most definitely a finger tip mouse (and before that they released the Lachesis and Boomslang CE, although those mice could technically be palmed far more easily than Salmosa...), so it isn't as if they're neglecting finger tippers

If these new lasers are as good as their specs describe them to be, it won't be long for replacements to come along and finally retire some of Razer's older products. They updated the Diamondback with the 3G infrared optical sensor, perhaps they'll do something similar with this new laser and install it into a tried and true design (other than the DeathAdder's :p)
